Sri Lanka vs South Africa: SA Beats SL in a Thrilling Moments by 6 Wickets in 4th Match of T20 World Cup 2024

In Sri Lanka vs South Africa T20 World Cup match, South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in their T20 World Cup.

With Nortje producing enviable figures of 4/7 in four overs, the Proteas first reduced Sri Lanka to 77 in 19.1 overs, the Islanders’ lowest score in T20 cricket. Kusal Mendis, the opener, scored the most runs for Sri Lanka, with 19 from 30 balls. The team captained by Aiden Markram then achieved the necessary runs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium despite losing four wickets. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka decided to bat first—a choice they would later come to regret. The only phrase that can adequately characterise Sri Lanka’s appalling performance at the bat in their first-ever match against South Africa is “complete and utter humiliation.”

A sluggish beginning became an excruciating nightmare as the Sri Lankan hitters could not settle down and provide a breakthrough. The South African bowlers took four more wickets in the following five overs, leaving a helpless Sri Lanka at 40/5 at the halfway point. This was after SL had managed just 24 runs in the opening five overs.

All the bowlers were excellent with the ball today, but none more so than Anrich Nortje, the returning pacer who destroyed the Sri Lankan batting order.

Man of the Match (Sri Lanka vs South Africa)

In the T20 World Cup, Nortje would record the best-ever numbers for a Protean pacer with a spell of 4/7 in 4 overs. With veteran Angelo Mathews scoring 16 runs, there was a ray of light, but it came too little, too late, as SL was bowled out for a pitiful 77 runs, their lowest-ever total in the T20 World Cup.

Anrich Nortje Man of the Match for the SL vs SA T20 World Cup

During the June 3rd T20 World Cup match between Sri Lanka and South Africa, Anrich Nortje won Man of the Match for his explosive bowling performance. In T20 Internationals, he put on a career-defining display, claiming an astounding four wickets for only 22 runs in his four overs. The Sri Lankan batters were under tremendous strain from this economical bowling, which destroyed their batting lineup and severely limited their score.

It was all about time for Nortje in SL vs SA, who took wickets early to break alliances and impede Sri Lanka’s progress. His horrific spell rendered their batting useless, paving the way for a convincing South African win. Nortje was the standout performer and deservedly won Man of the Match because of his unequaled numbers compared to other bowlers.
