A sluggish beginning became an excruciating nightmare as the Sri Lankan hitters could not settle down and provide a breakthrough. The South African bowlers took four more wickets in the following five overs, leaving a helpless Sri Lanka at 40/5 at the halfway point. This was after SL had managed just 24 runs in the opening five overs.

All the bowlers were excellent with the ball today, but none more so than Anrich Nortje, the returning pacer who destroyed the Sri Lankan batting order.

In the T20 World Cup, Nortje would record the best-ever numbers for a Protean pacer with a spell of 4/7 in 4 overs. With veteran Angelo Mathews scoring 16 runs, there was a ray of light, but it came too little, too late, as SL was bowled out for a pitiful 77 runs, their lowest-ever total in the T20 World Cup.
